FWIW, classic noise-induced hearing loss almost always shows a threshold sensitivity notch at 4 kHz rather than progression to further loss at 8, especially early on. I suspect the “audiometer” here is part of the problem at 8 kHz, but only proper history, exam, and audiometric studies can determine what’s really going on.
