The influence of C-Mn partitioning on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the steel was studied. Graphical abstract will now be made mandatory for Scripta Materialia. For every article, authors are now asked to provide an image that summarizes the contents of the article in a concise, pictorial form designed to capture the attention of a wide readership online.

The objective of this introduction to the viewpoint set on architectured materials is to illustrate the paradigm shift which occurs by introducing additional length scales into a material in addition to those provided by the microstructure.

Specific materials discussed are metals, ceramics and semiconductors at all length scales, and published research endeavors explore the functional or mechanical behavior of these materials. The designated alloy, TiZrCrMnFeNi containing 95 wt% C14 Laves phase, absorbs and desorbs 1.7 wt% of hydrogen (hydrogen-to-metal ratio: 1) at room temperature with a fast kinetics and without activation treatment.Graphical abstract (Source: Scripta Materialia) This study employs time-domain thermoreflectance to spatially profile the thermal conductivity of thermally aged samples, providing a practical method to understand the spatial distribution of α-cristobalite in partially- and fully-devitrified amorphous silica.Graphical abstract (Source: Scripta Materialia) The Young's Modulus of the new glassy alloys is exceptionally low (~35 GPa) and much lower than that of the Mg60Ca5Zn35glassy alloy (~50 GPa) indicating possible potential biomedical applications.Graphical abstract (Source: Scripta Materialia) Source: Scripta Materialia - August 19, 2019 Category: Materials Science Source Type: research This finding could be an appropriate design strategy to develop new ultrastrong alloys for cryogenic applications.Graphical abstract (Source: Scripta Materialia) Source: Scripta Materialia - June 29, 2019 Category: Materials Science Source Type: research. Graphical abstracts should be submitted as a separate file in the online submission system. Image size: please provide an image with a minimum of 531 × 1328 pixels (h × w) or proportionally more. The image should be readable at a size of 5 × 13 cm using a regular screen resolution of 96 dpi.

The results from studies indicate there is no change in the constant structure glide kinetics of copper across the 673 to 973K temperature range. The values of the obstacle strength parameter, g{sub o}, are in the range of 0.701 and 0.785, which is characteristic of medium strength obstacles such as forest dislocations. Abstract Cementite dissolution in hypereutectoid steels containing chromium is analyzed with dilatometric analysis combined with a consideration of the carbon content in austenite.

The effect of defects on strength of gold microparticles 2020-12-01 · Abstract Coupling of nano-indentation and crystal plasticity finite element (CPFE) simulations is widely used to quantitatively probe the small-scale mechanical behaviour of materials. Earlier studies showed that CPFE can successfully reproduce the load-displacement curves and surface morphology for different crystal orientations.
